Minimally Invasive Vascular Procedures
Newer techniques allow us to perform minimally invasive vascular procedures without surgery. These include use of a guide wire and balloon to open up arteries in the arms, chest and kidneys as well as the arteries to the lower extremities. Stents are sometimes used to hold the arteries open. The hospital stay is usually overnight and sometimes requires blood thinners postoperatively. These procedures are performed in the cardiac catheterization lab, or in the operating room.
